Self portrait

Well you would not want anyone else taking your picture - would you?

I have been taking pictures for more that twenty years and more recently have moved away from 35 mm film to digital imaging. Started taking Scotvec courses at college many years ago, and worked my way to the Kodak diploma in Photography. Just recently, I undertook an advanced course at Clydebank college to pass my Higher exams in photography. A photojournalist, taught from the College of Building and Printing, for some years I always enjoyed seeing my words and pictures appearing various newspapers based in the Glasgow area.

My main area of interest was People pictures (portraits if you will) and taking record/archive material for my regiment - Queens Own Highlanders. See this site for 100s of pictures!  This also led to the production of the 200th anniversary DVD/Video of the regiment with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, and is available for purchase from this site. This military work has been reproduced many times and in various journals and sold all over the world. More recent DVDs and slide shows, with music, have been made with my current regiment, 1 Highlanders, 4th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland based in Fallingbostel in Germany. These are also available for sale.

I have also supplied the images for Maurice Fieldmans new books on the Clan McMidgey, with photographs from the Great Glen and Loch Ness. It was at my Higher course at college that my tutor suggested I concentrate on landscape pictures as we considered this my area of least experience. Thanks to him and his tutoring advice, I really enjoyed the work and gained valuable lessons in what made a good landscape. You see the result of this in my current Calendar work. My course work was in black and white so my images are not duplicated here in the calendar.

Interested in some nice glamour pictures? Something you can look back on in the years to come? Then look no further. Get yourself all dolled up for a night at the studio, or on location outdoors for about £75, for up to 2 hours of picture taking. Well worth it to look back on in the years to come!

Some of my work is funded by various voluntary bodies including the European Union, Grants for All, Scottish Arts Council and local CPPs. I owe a vote of thanks to all those who have assisted over the years, and seen the potential. I am currently still undertaking public sector work enabling younger people to get involved in photography by tutoring an Introduction to Photography.

I was working with the lovely Laura Kenny, singer and songwriter, who has just recently produced her first CD - DRIVE. Watch this space for more images. Laura has now moved to Spain but hopefully will return later in the year.

I have also just returned from Italy where I was fortunate enough to cover two weddings, one near Milan and the other in Lake Garda. Great experiences and the images can be seen on the wedding page. One thing my foreign visits has taught me is that you need time for people pictures. Quality time is usually rewarded in quality images and this applies to weddings in particular. I am not asking for hours away from your guests but we do need some alone time with your new husband and Bridal party. Having a second photographer on hand also helps as they can work with the rest of your invited guests or party. Give me the time and I will give you the images to last a lifetime - and more.

Having taking your picture, I do not normally publish the same by way of publicity unless you ask, or give me permission to do so. That also explains why there are not too many wedding pictures on site yet and it is only in the last 12 months or so, that digital cameras have reached the quality level required for large prints. That, and the fact I only do 10- 12 per year limits the number available. All images are exclusive to myself and are not produced in large numbers. This should allow you to display a picture not seen or bought by many people. Previous exhibition display images (mainly black and white) have all sold well, and I have resisted the temptation to show the same photographs again for re- sale.

Please enjoy browsing the site and I hope some images are to your liking. All images are available for purchase, mainly as Calendar, DVDs, postcards etc. Calendar pictures can be cut and trimmed for framing at the end of the year as these are produced on good quality photo paper. You can also have pictures placed on table mats, mugs, jigsaws, key fobs etc. Please ask if you interested in anything similar.

I hope you enjoy viewing some of my work as much as I enjoyed taking the pictures. Glasgow and Scotland, have some beautiful places. The Calendar is entitled As I wander. – for obvious reasons!

Yours aye,

George Monaghan
